Yeeeah. January. How boring are thee? Let me count the ways. Skewl needs to start right NOW OMGWTFBBQELEVENTY11!!!!! Why? Because I'm still sitting around reading things like Culture After Humanism: History, Culture, Subjectivity and Galicia: A Multicultured Land. It occurred to me some one is eventually going to make me write a thesis and/or at least pick a topic. I think I shall write about how I'm crazy. Yes? No? You know you'd read it. Okay not really.
Also, OMG where are my grades????!? I got an A in Gypsy Music and flute lessons, but it's the two courses actually within my program that worry me.
NYC Cousin and I are headed to Jerz tomorrow for Ukrainian (Orthodox) Christmas Eve shenanigans with the Jersey Cousins. And also a trip to IKEA. I've never been there. I might turn into a yuppie if I go in there.

I slacked off, I'm afraid. I only ended up with 96 books, although I did read 27239 pages. I think I read at least that many pages of articles for school. Okay, maybe not that many.
( Nerdiness this way. )
Best books:
John Lennon: The Life
The American Folk Scene
The Gargoyle
Zen Guitar
The Hunger Games
Those Who Save Us
The Elegance of the Hedgehog
The Underneath
The Chalice and the Blade
Ways of Seeing
Catching Fire
Orientalism
Sea of Poppies
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
The Power of Myth
Seriously, go read Joseph Campbell RIGHT NOW. I mean it. Through him I have now justified running away to be a crazy nerd with the most student loans EVAR. Also, multiple kudos to Suzanne Collins, who wrote two wonderful page turner-y young adult novels that aren't crap (I'm looking at you Stephenie Meyer!). And, finally, John is my new favorite Beatle.

Happy 2010!
Is it wrong that I really don't have any resolutions?

1. What from 2009 do you want to leave behind?
Honestly, I'm really proud of my 2009. I started the year at my miserable job with the same resolution I'd made for the past few years previously- get the eff out of Pothole Town. And, I did. I went all Joseph Campbell on myself and ran off to Teh Big City to follow my bliss (go read "The Power of Myth" right now). And it was good. If there's anything to leave behind, as a rule, it's any remaining fear of life and things. Just do it! Regrets, don't haz them!
2. What from 2009 will you be sad to leave behind?
There's nothing in particular that I am leaving behind, except a little bit more of my youth. Hehe, that sounds bitter, but I just mean that in some ways I've grown up a little more, as one does each year, and part of that means priorotising things a little differently (I'm stealing Janette's excellent answer!)
3. What will you bring with you from 2009 into 2010?
My new and improved flute skillz and nerdaliciousness. I heart skewl.
4. What are your goals for 2010?
Continued improvement in flute skillz and nerdaliciousness. Columbia? Ph.D in Ukrainian Studies? What now?! Why not? I could be the world's foremost (meaning only) expert on Lemko flute players, bwahahahahaha. Also, finding a sugar daddy would be nice to help pay off all these loans. ;)
5. How are you feeling about 2010?
Good! Nevermind the fact that I'll be celebrating my second 29th birthday.... life begins at 29 v. 2.0. :)

Hello livejournal. I am back in the wilds of Queens once again, having arrived last night with NYC Cousin from a delightful week in Pothole Town spent in front of the TV eating copious amounts of chocolate. It was pretty glorious. On the way back yesterday we stopped in New Jersey to visit the Jersey Cousins, one of whom is about eight feet tall and therefore we have to question whether or not he is actually related to our tribe of midgets.
Anyway, Jersey Great Aunt puts mushroom dumplings in her borscht, which is about the greatest idea ever. I just had to share. The end. :)

Christmas Eve > Christmas Day
Of course we went over to Very Ukrainian Great Uncle's house. Sadly there was no Cousin Bobo, who, as we discussed, is everyone's favorite cousin (he's on a cruise with his mom? who knows), although there are always some fun shenanigans, like this quote:
V.U.G.U.: "Jesus Christ, why am I in jail?!" LOLOLOL.
Merry Christmas everyone. :)
